About

Hi! I’m Deborah Song, mom of two, writer and most recently, the founder of Travel by Word. Jars of Letters contains personal letters I write to my daughters. If you’re reading my blog for the first time, you may be wondering why you’re reading letters intended for someone else.

I always wanted to share my deepest musings, insights and bits of wisdom with my children. Maybe through bedtime talks or fireside chats. Maybe I’d even pass down a handwritten journal one day. But never did I once think to make them public.

So why am I sharing letters initially intended only for my daughters to read? Because my Great Crash of 40, or my midlife crisis, required me to to reconcile the wide-eyed hopes of my youth with the stark reality of my middle ages.

Seeing firsthand the frailty of most of my hopes unable to withstand the pressures of time, revealed that in the end there was only one hope left standing. Walking with God through the worst of it not only sustained and guided me, but enabled me to experience joy alongside my pain. This Hope is what is contained in Jars of Letters.

I only write about what I know. So if you’ve found a hope outside of mine, I’m not here to judge that. I only know that life without hope is no way to live. My only hope for Jars of Letters is that you find yours too.

Thanks for visiting.
